Alright, so it’s not really snowy or cold out anymore, but that’s not going to keep us form celebrating the release of the Winter edition of the guide.

We’ll also be awarding the Best of 2011 Readers’ Poll winners at the party. So dress for the red carpet and bring your autograph book and camera.

After 2 months abstaining from alcohol to be in better physical shape for a pending trip to Europe, my liver needs its own training for the French wines, Belgian ales, and German zoigl beer I’ll be imbibing over the next few weeks. What better place to indulge than our Austin Beer Guide Summer Release Party with great friends and fabulous local craft beer?

The line into the Draught House was the longest that I can recall in all the years that I’ve been frequenting this pub and brewery. Our Fu Manchu glasses were a hit, although I didn’t get one before they sold out.

Real Ale Mysterium Vernium XIV and Austin Beerworks Peacemaker

I selected the Real Ale Mysterium Verum Volume XIV and Austin Beerworks Peacemaker Extra Pale Ale which aren’t sold in regular pint glasses. Aged for six months in American oak, the Mysterium Verum affirms Real Ale’s place as the top producing Texas craft beer.

Meanwhile newbie Austin Beerworks has blasted out into the market with a firm grasp on the sparsely populated can beer market. My prediction is that Austin Beerworks will redefine the term “river beer” — beer that will quench the thirst while floating down the Guadalupe while adhering to the “no glass” restrictions. No more “sex in a canoe” beer, I’ll be packing the tastiest canned beer on my camping trips and float trips.

The summer issue for the Austin Beer Guide was well-received by all, especially the patient folks who waited in line for their local craft beer served up in a Fu Manchu pint glass.

We’re celebrating the launch of the second issue of the Austin Beer Guide (www.austinbeerguide.com) this coming Wednesday at Draught House.

There will be brewers present, maybe some special beers, and NEW MUSTACHE GLASSES!

Currently, we are coordinating a series of pint night events with various bars and brewers to be scheduled throughout the summer, the first one being next Wednesday (6-22) at Draught House for the Austin Beer Guide Summer Issue Launch Party (more info coming soon).

the phrase of the moment is “tap takeover” and who are we to resist. This wednesday (the 27th) we will be taken over by New Belgium and be pouring eight of their beers.

We are happy to have both Love, the unblended base for La Folie and other sour beers, and Super Cru, their 20th anniversary ale, to serve.

In addition, we will be pouring Le Terroir, La Folie, Fat Tire, Mothership Wit, Ranger IPA and Somersault, their new spring seasonal.

PLUS, with any beer purchase, a globe glass is FREE.

But that’s not all. We will also have cheese samples gratis with some (perhaps all) of the beers.

And to top it all off Miss Lauren Salazar, sensory analyst extraordinaire, will grace us with her presence.
