<p><strong>Got this news in my inbox this morning. Alright. I sort of love hair cuts and I really love beer, so it&#8217;s good news all around.</strong></p>
<p>From the <a href="http://www.birdsbarbershop.com/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.birdsbarbershop.com/?referer=');">horse&#8217;s</a> mouth:</p>
<blockquote><p>Today, Birds Barbershop proudly begins serving Shiner Bock and Shiner Light Blonde to all customers, in a co-branding partnership with the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas. Previously, Birds clients were served a complimentary Lone Star Beer with a haircut.</p>
<p>“Every drop of Shiner is brewed right here in Texas, and the incredible people behind the company are here too,” said Michael Portman, Birds’ co-founder. “We share a lot of Shiner’s values, including our passion for music. But making someone’s day is the ultimate co-branding opportunity, and nothing does that quite like a free Shiner to go with a new haircut.”</p>
<p>Portman and his co-founding partner Jayson Rapaport believe that serving Shiner Bock and Shiner Light Blonde will be a major upgrade to their clients’ experience and options, with no added cost.</p>
<p>Like many of Birds Barbershop’s marketing efforts, the Shiner partnership relies more on audience-sharing than cash-swapping. Shiner will supply the beer for Birds’ four central Austin locations, including a fifth Birds opening in the Hyde Park neighborhood this Fall. Shiner will be involved in ongoing Birds Barbershop promotions and events, including a late summer partnership kickoff party at Birds Barbershop on South Congress. Further invitation details will be included on a free koozie that will accompany all Shiner beers served at Birds Barbershops starting later this month.</p>
<p>“It’s a natural fit,” said Stacey Williams, National Director of Marketing for The Gambrinus Company. “We’re Texas born and raised and share our belief in fan loyalty with the folks at Birds Barbershop. This partnership gives us each another way to enhance the customer experience, be it with a great haircut, a cold Shiner beer or in most cases, both.”</p>
<p>With franchising underway, there are plans for future Birds Barbershop growth outside of Texas, giving Birds and Shiner the opportunity to boost each other’s brands in markets outside their home state.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Cheers to both parties and I look forward to the hair cut and beer party later this summer.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Also, free koozies is nice.</strong></p>

<p><strong>I love top 10 lists, I love end of year lists, and I love records, so you know I&#8221;m going to LOVE this list.</strong></p>
<p>Disclaimer, I&#8217;m not posting this so you know how cool I am and how cool my music taste is. I was in <a href="http://www.birdsbarbershop.com/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.birdsbarbershop.com/?referer=');">Bird&#8217;s</a> waiting to get some hairs cut and picked up the latest copy of <a href="http://www.spin.com/best-of-2009" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.spin.com/best-of-2009?referer=');">Spin and read their top 20 of 2009</a> list and mostly disagreed thinking, &#8220;I could do a better list than this&#8230; so I will&#8221;/am.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re not into current music, then you can check out now. But I like beer and I like finding new music so&#8230;</p>
<p>Because You Like Beer YOU LIKE TOP 11 BEST RECORDS OF 2009 LISTS! <em>[yup, i'm going with 11 again]</em></p>
<p><img class="alignleft" title="Century of Self" src="http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/12703-the-century-of-self.jpg" alt="" width="108" height="106" /><strong>11. </strong><a href="http://www.trailofdead.com/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.trailofdead.com/?referer=');"><strong>&#8230;And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead</strong></a><strong> &#8211; </strong><a href="http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/12703-the-century-of-self/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/12703-the-century-of-self/?referer=');"><strong><em>The Century of Self</em></strong></a></p>
<p>Yeah. This was a great record. A great comeback record, in my opinion. I loved &#8230;Trail of Dead when I first heard <em><a href="http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/178-source-tags-and-codes/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/178-source-tags-and-codes/?referer=');">Source Tags and Codes</a>, </em>then<em> </em>I loved them just a little less when I heard <em><a href="http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/182-worlds-apart/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/182-worlds-apart/?referer=');">Worlds Apart</a>, </em>then I didn&#8217;t even bother to look for an <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">illegal download</span> free sample of the next record, the one wt the anime CGI girl in the honeycomb&#8230; So I was pretty hesitant when I heard <em>Century of Self </em>was coming out. I had really expected that the &#8230;Trail of Dead guys had dried out, got married, kids, jobs at Dell and lots of tattoo regrets. Then they released <em>Century of Self</em> and succinctly proved to me that they could still produce Lon- Star-chugging-American-Spirits-hot-boxing-standing-in-a-sweaty-crowd-of-hipsters worthy music. Thanks guys, I always think of you when I wake up in the middle of the night to throw up cause I had too many Lone Stars and American Spirits.</p>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 36px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead &#8211; The Century of Self</div>
<p><strong><em><img class="alignleft" title="merriweather post pavillion" src="http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/Animal_Collective_Merriweather_Post_Pavilion.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="120" />10. <a href="http://animalcollective.org/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/animalcollective.org/?referer=');"><span style="font-style: normal;">Animal Collective</span></a>- <a href="http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/12518-merriweather-post-pavilion/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/12518-merriweather-post-pavilion/?referer=');">Merriweather Post Pavilion</a></em></strong></p>
<p>Hmm&#8230; am I cool enough to listen to these guys? Even though I wear knock off Ray Bans, Vans with laces, and ironic grandpa sweaters, no, I am not cool enough. No one is cool enough.</p>
<p>So how cool do you feel now, Animal Collective, you only made #10.</p>
<p>Really though, I liked this album a lot. <a href="http://www.myspace.com/rippityrippity" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.myspace.com/rippityrippity?referer=');">Panda Bear&#8217;s</a> 2007 <a href="http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/10025-person-pitch/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/10025-person-pitch/?referer=');"><em>Person Pitch</em></a> really won me over, and I heard a lot of that same vibe on MPP.</p>
<p>This record is definitely more poppy and approachable than <a href="http://pitchfork.com/artists/96-animal-collective/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/pitchfork.com/artists/96-animal-collective/?referer=');">their other stuff</a>, and it&#8217;s a lot of fun, too.</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t be intimidated, check it out.</p>
<p><strong><img class="alignleft" title="i told you i was freaky" src="http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/itoldyouiwasfreaky.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="120" />9. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_of_the_Conchords" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_of_the_Conchords?referer=');">Flight of the Conchords</a>-<a href="http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13570-i-told-you-i-was-freaky/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13570-i-told-you-i-was-freaky/?referer=');"> </a></strong><em><strong><a href="http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13570-i-told-you-i-was-freaky/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13570-i-told-you-i-was-freaky/?referer=');">I Told You I Was Freaky</a></strong></em></p>
<p>In my opinion, where the <a href="http://www.hbo.com/conchords/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.hbo.com/conchords/?referer=');">second season</a> of the show dropped the ball, the second Sub-POP release picked it back up. I watched season two, was a little let down, then heard the record, and now like season two better. MAGIC!</p>
<p>Too Many Dicks (on the Dance Floor), Sugalumps, You Don&#8217;t Have to be a Prostitute, and Hurt Feelings all do it to it.</p>
<p>I really think this second record is stronger than the first. I can only remember a handful of songs from that record, and when I can&#8217;t remember much about something, most of the time it means it wasn&#8217;t as good as <em>I Told You I Was Freaky</em>.</p>
<p><strong><img class="alignleft" title="curse your branches" src="http://www.davidbazan.com/wp-content/uploads/curse-your-branches-350.jpg" alt="" width="126" height="113" />8. </strong><a href="http://www.davidbazan.com/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.davidbazan.com/?referer=');"><strong>David Bazan</strong></a><strong>- </strong><a href="http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2009/09/dave-bazan-curse-your-branches.html" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2009/09/dave-bazan-curse-your-branches.html?referer=');"><strong><em>Curse Your Branches</em></strong></a></p>
<p>According to my wife, this is my man. Admittedly, I do have a lot of a crush on him. I went through the stereotypical girlfriend-cheated-on-me-I-was-failing-French-becoming-disenfranchised-from-blah-blah-blah Senior year of college, and <a href="http://www.davidbazan.com/pedro-the-lion/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.davidbazan.com/pedro-the-lion/?referer=');">Pedro the Lion</a> pulled me through. I&#8217;m so predictable it&#8217;s gross. Anyways, I sort of developed this survivors&#8217; relationship with Mr. Bazan, and have paced my &#8220;growing up&#8221; along his songwriting/band development. Hmm&#8230; that&#8217;s pretty personal. Anyways, he writes great songs about drinking too much, being married, having kids, having parents, having religion, not having religion, etc., and Curse Your Branches doesn&#8217;t stray from his usual MO. Unfortunately, he has somewhat departed from his semi allegorical story telling parable approach, which I liked a lot. Still a good record, but only a #8 good record.</p>
<p><img class="alignleft" title="dark night of the soul" src="http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/darknightofthesoul.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="120" /><strong>7. </strong><a href="http://dnots.com/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/dnots.com/?referer=');"><strong>Danger Mouse &amp; Sparklehorse</strong></a><strong>- </strong><a href="http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13193-dark-night-of-the-soul/" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13193-dark-night-of-the-soul/?referer=');"><strong><em>Dark Night of the Soul</em></strong></a></p>
<p>David Lynch was also involved in this. If I was doing a top 11 list of best albums to be recorded but never released in 2009, this one would be on the top. There&#8217;s a back story (check the link, I&#8217;m sure Pitchfork did the leg work on explaining it) to why it was never released, but it was paired with a photo book, and when you bought the book it came with a blank disc intended for you to burn your downloaded free sample of DNOTS to. I just put mine on my iPhone.</p>
<p>Chock full of exceptional guest vocalists and collaborators, this record is truly great. I love pretty much everything Danger Mouse does, and I&#8217;m also a huge Sparklehorse fan, so it makes sense that I love this record. I&#8217;m just sad that it was so high on the list. I&#8217;m feeling guilty about that now. Listers remorse.</p>
<p><strong><em>&#8230;to be continued!</em></strong></p>
<p><em>[if you can stomach anymore of this, I'll finish the list before the week's over]</em></p>
