Lame
“Who do I blame for this stupid web page magazine?”
The discontented fruits of the Reagan era middle class whom, by the laziest means (i.e. WordPress), attempt to disassociate themselves from their Bible-belt, JC Penney’s, Disney Afternoon upbringing with this smoker’s wheeze excuse for journalism and op-ed dreck are represented here:
Chris: Um… I’m a web producer for a PR and marketing agency. I spend my days knee deep in content management systems, Facebook pages and answering questions about social media. I didn’t drink beer until college, and didn’t drink good beer until about 2004. I’ve been a homebrewer since 2006, my favorite recipe is a whiskey barrel aged coffee porter, my default beer usually changes with the season. My beer Degobah was Washington state and my beer Yoda was my corporate AMEX. Besides beer, I like my wife, chess, Apple stuff, music, disc golf, and the Internet. Disclosure: I sometimes work as a freelance web consultant for various breweries and establishments featured on this site.
JIB: I’m a entrepreneur and web designer. I am still a novice when it comes to beer knowledge and was only introduced to good beer about two years ago. My most common description of a beer I like is “tasty.” And I can’t but laugh when others make fun of me for that. I am learning more every week thanks to Chris and Shawn. I enjoy hanging with my wife, being outside, riding my fixed gear bike everywhere possible, and brainstorming new projects, among other things.
Shawn: I’m a software trainer by day, semi-pro beer photog by night. My beer history is similar to Chris’ as we went to the same conservative undergrad college, both made poor beverage choices early on, then wised up while traversing the better taps of Colorado and Washington state the summer of 2006 (also via a corporate AMEX). I like IPAs, my fall back beer is Live Oak IPA, maybe Stone IPA, I homebrew some, and enjoy travel, politics, and trying to play the drums.
Josh: I spend my days on the computer working in communications/marketing. I didn’t drink much in college and didn’t start expanding my beer palate until after graduation. It all began with a free Saint Arnold during an in-store at the old Cactus Records in Houston in 2004. I’ve come a long way and still have more to go. My preferences change with the seasons, but I always appreciate a solid stout or porter. When not drinking with my wife and friends, I enjoy running, camping, home brewing and going to live shows.
Kevin: I make my beer & rent money at a small residential architecture firm in South Austin. I basically play around on CAD a lot. My interest in craft beer started with $2 pint nights at a small bar in College Station and a summer spent studying photography in Western Germany. When I am not thinking about how buildings do not fall down I enjoy traveling with my soon-to-be-wife, lakes, mountains, soccer and trying new beers. My go to beer around Austin is a 512 Pecan Porter.
Jason: Hi I’m Jason. Born and raised in Chicago; but living in Austin the
past 10 years.
I like good beer and hanging out with people who like good beer. I
enjoy trying new beers from homebrew to craft beers.
I just started homebrewing cause of BTA so you should too!!
Favorite Beers: Real Ale Lost Gold, Lagunitas IPA, Bell’s Two Hearted
Ale, Avery Hog Heaven
Favorite Pub: Draught House
Want to try: Pliny the Elder – Russian River
Debbie aka beersnax: I was introduced to craft beer in 1989 while working at the historic Ale House in Houston, Texas. After moving to Austin in 1993 I worked at one of the first Austin brewpubs, Armadillo Brewing Company, which lasted about six months. As a member-owner of Black Star Co-op I’ve served as a director of the world’s first cooperatively owned and worker-managed brewpub. I’ve won awards for my homebrew, although I don’t brew nearly enough — spending too much time drinking other peoples’ beer.
I love the microbreweries in Central Texas and enjoy sharing my passion for craft beer. Which is why I recently transitioned out of my state job as a drinking water quality specialist to work in the craft beer industry — handling social media, web, promotions and community relations including legislative action for North by Northwest Restaurant & Brewery, special events for Red’s Porch, as well as continued support for the Texas Craft Brewers Guild and Texas Beer Freedom.
Aaron: I have been a proud Austinite for over fifteen years after skipping out of
my hometown before later realizing that it was both “quaint and charming.”
I spend my days and nights managing an ever-growing mass of networked gizmos
for a very passionate organization in downtown Austin and the rest of my time
dreaming about food, beer and hockey. I became interested in beer in college after I
started drinking Celis Grand Cru, and it was all downhill from there. My favorite beers
are big bold stouts and very sour sours. Follow on twitter at twitter.com/ahaley.
If it weren’t for fear of being tattled on for “surfing the net” at work (we already have one strike), this page site would have more content.
Maybe this weekend between trips to the outlet mall and Ikea we’ll have time to put more up, or probably just go to Chili’s with our wives and girl friends.
“Why take even the little amount of time you do spend on this site away from doing things like eating out at chain theme restaurants and watching Seth Rogen movies?”
Because we also drink beer while doing those things, and we think that Austin is a pretty good town to drink it in. Also, we hope to one day get some of those free business cards with our logo on them to hand out to bars and breweries and hopefully get free beer in return.
