Beer Town Austin

We were invited out to Thirsty Planet‘s open house back in July (Yikes- this post is tardy. Between Hawaii, babies, jobs, lack of iMovie 08 skillz, and general etcetera-ness we are behind on our video posts) and here is the rundown.

Mr. Smittle had all three of his beers flowing. This was my first time to try the amber and wheat. Pretty good. The amber was solid and the wheat a classic American what that was refreshing and super drinkable- and with the heat, I did drink more of the wheat. And of course I had some of the IPA. There were early reports of it suffering from low carbonation, but it was in grand form for the occasion. Brian goes into more detail about the beers in the video (I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to type it out when you can just as easily click ‘play’…)

The brewery was more robust than last time we visited. Right beside the tex-mex catering line was the yet to be assembled bottling line. He estimated it would be up in the October/November range.

The tasting room and bar were finished and very nice. Brian talks about the bar made from reclaimed doors (and you can see us looking down into from atop the brewhouse in the video) and the other finishing work done in there. It’s pretty swanky.

The outside beirgarten was mostly complete as well. With picnic tables situated within a stone wall and an area for live music, Thirsty Planet are maneuvering themselves to be a brewery worth visiting. He plans to have the tasting room open on Saturdays in the mid-day neighborhood but said to check back on the website for more info (also, they’ve been pretty consistent on keeping people update via Twitter.)

Abels on the Lake has all 3 beers; Dancing Bear in Waco has Thirsty Goat Amber and Buckethead IPA; Nasty’s carries Yellow Armadillo Wheat and Thirsty Goat Amber; Yellow Armadillo can also be found at Jack Allen’s Kitchen, Opal Divines- Marina, Reds Porch, and The Dogwood; Thirsty Goat Amber is available at The Draught House, The Tavern, Trudy’s and Whip In. Now, to the biggest of our beers, Buckethead IPA can be enjoyed at Black Sheep Lodge, Dig Pub, Fion- Bee Cave, lying Saucer and Houndstooth Coofee. Little Woodrows, Bee Cave are putting two of our beers on today, we will let you know which ones.
