Yikes stripes, this podcast is old.

This episode features the vocal stylings of Josh ‘Little Beard’, Aaron of CraftAustin/MyLastPint(over achiever), Meylo of Hopsonic, and myself.

We actually skipped over the second session from Lovejoys as we dedicated the majority of those 20 minutes previewing Austin Beer Week (which was great) and the 3rd Bike Pub Crawl (which was also great). Obviously, that wouldn’t be near as enjoyable as listening to us spew content that doesn’t recognize timeliness as a news value.

Good, good stuff here.

OK, so actually we do talk about some news that’s old. We pour some beer for the fallen brewpub homies, Two Rows in Houston and the Covey in Fort Worth. Sad stuff. We give a shout out to Steve at Allgoodbeer.com and Stuart for running much more newsworthy blogs than ours. We pontificate upon the business of brewpubs, and then move on once we realize how little we know. We still fake it enough to be embarrassing in retrospect.

Apparently Black Star Co-op had recently opened but not yet started serving their own beers yet.

If you don’t listen to the whole episode, at least skip to the 12:45 point where the Lovejoys jukebox loudly interrupts Josh as he is giving the low down on Black Star Co-op’s beer selection. It’s awesome. Totally worth the listen.

We talk about the first Jester King brew and I drop the comment more than once that I crashed their first brew day; I guess I was looking for a pat on the head this night.

We then begin to astutely speculate on the beer offerings for the Draught House birthday party and 3rd Flying Saucer Fall Beer Fest.

Welcome to our umpteenth episode of this good for nothing podcast (be sure to subscribe in iTunes!)

This litter of recordings brought to you by Lovejoy’s- they had no idea what they were signing up for.

We recorded this back in September wt Meylo from Hopsonic. Due to this and that we are just now getting around to posting the podcast. BUT don’t let that discourage you from listening- it’s still just as terrible two months late.

We sit down with Todd Henry from Lovejoy’s Taproom and talk about his beer, how he got into brewing for Lovejoy’s, drinking beer and raw eggs, Todd’s “experience” at GABF, and some other stuff and such. Todd also talks about the unique brewery at Lovejoy’s and the barrel aged stuff and other experimental brews he has going on/coming up (according to the podcast, he should have his Jack Daniel’s barrel aged barely wine pouring now- I’ll have to check on that tomorrow after work).

Enough with the reading and more with the listening. This is a good one, so at least put it on while your doing something you don’t need your ears for. Like work. Or driving. Or taking a shower. Maybe Christmas gift wrapping. Or tinseling the tree. It’s up to you, the perfect opportunities for listing to four jerks talk about shit while drinking for free are endless.

Remember last podcast? It was over a month ago.

I don’t blame you if you don’t remember. Anyway, the last episode was sort of hollywoodish. We also started this podcast with a little bit of movie talk. So I thought I would begin this write up with a clever quip about how this was the Godfather III of the Billy’s on Burnet podcasts. But it sucked, not clever at all.

My second idea was to write a verbose, longwinded tale about our night at Billy’s as a means to fill the page up with links to my site. Nah, too lazy for that.

Finally I decided to go with my third idea for the write up, a top ten list of things you will learn by listening to the p-cast. It sucks too, it’s the Godfather III of podcast-write-up-ideas. But I was out of ideas, therefore:

Ten things you will learn from listening:

1. BeerTownAustin can’t get people to show up even with the lure of free beer. This is why I (Craft Austin) never leave the house.
2. Chris and Brian have a very checkered resume in Austin.
3. Seemingly nobody agrees with my Texas pilsner rating.
4. Billy’s has a great vegetarian menu for a burger joint.

Knockin’ ‘em Back… the Entertainment Tonight edition. Movies, explosions, premium cable shows, celebrity encounters, plus a little bit ‘o beer news.

We’re still at Billy’s on Burnet, making up for the less than stellar recording a few months back. Same charismatic crew as last time, even more useless chatter that will in no way impact your life.

We stick with another near-20 minute episode to keep this short and sweet. There is a lot of Hollywood-related news here. Summer blockbuster (or lack there of), HBO shows, why some of us can’t (or just don’t) go to movie theaters and one contributors real-life experience saving a damsel in distress with a pretty well known actor.

In between all this excitement we get in a little beer news (that’s why we’re here, right?) about recent trips to Thirsty Planet (you can find all three beers around town now) and Ranger Creek (they’re brewing!).

Time to stop reading and start listening.

Welcome welcome to part two of Knockin’ em Back at Billy’s on Burnet, a podcast. Check out Part One here.

We hit up the beer news, lots of it out dated at this point. We talk about the Dogfish Head/Alamo Drafthouse Lakecreek Off-Centered Film Fest (coverage of this to come…), the Flying Saucer East Coast Big Beer Week (also coverage to come…), we talk about Ranger Creek announcing that cicerone Rob Landerman of Flying Saucer being their future brewer, the news that Draught House plans on submitting some beers to the Great American Beer Festival for 2010, also we discuss the old news that Real Ale will be bottling some of their barrel aged experimental beers (Mysterium Verum) in 750 ml bottles. We get over excited about this as I ran into some Real Ale buddies the other night and they said it may not be in the so near future.

Not for grandmas, children, republicans, sunday school teachers, boy scouts, the PC, or the easily offended…

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away we recorded a podcast at Billy’s on Burnet…

This has been a rough month for updating content. We can’t even keep up with the bullshit podcast.

This edition of Knockin’ em Back is brought to you by the fine fine folks at Billy’s on Burnet, where you don’t go for the burgers, the burgers go for you.

Myself, Shawn, JIB, our comedy friend (old roommate) Bryan Gutmann, and Billy himself sit down over several beers and a few glasses of wine (Bryan’s not much for beer) and talk Austin beer history, Billy’s on Burnet history, New Years Eve 2006 party history, some beer news, and then some other shit I can’t remember but is TOTALLY worth listening to.

Listen to it just to hear Billy Forrester talk about Austin’s beer history. You would be surprised at what all he has had his hands in beer wise around town (unless you already know, then you will just be glad to hear it again).

We try a little different format with less organized beer talk and just more talk over beers. Hope you like. Or really, whatever, we don’t really care.

It’s a good one. I’ve already listened to it twice. I’m its biggest fan.

We cuss a lot, and Bryan cusses more, so don’t even dare listen to this unless you’re ready hear a lot of cussing. Like, when you’re in grade school and you and your friends first learn to cuss and do it too much and all wrong.

This is a good one. Clocks in just under an hour. Still figuring out the format/how much to pander to the sponsor’s ego (we genuinely laughed at most of your jokes, Chris)… just kidding. Getting to hang out and drink with our sponsors has been a lot of fun.

This episode was manned by myself, JIB, Shawn and Josh (little beard/@itzsprad) and we were joined by Chris (T-Bird owner).

We spent a good amount of time talking about the Thunderbird history, their beers, mixing coffee and beer, riding bikes, riding roller skates, regulars turning into roommates, cussing a lot, Budweiser Chelada, SXSW, the Austin Homebrew (re)Opening party, the Draught House Brewdog tasting and the (512) Spring Open House.

Lots of talking points there.

Also, lots of talking points lost. We moved due to crazy rain coming in on us and then we set back up in dryer quarters, recorded a good 20 minutes, and then realized I had never turned our mixer back on.

Bummer. We had a good little chat about Charles in Charge, I think we sung the song, I told a story about me yelling at people at SXSW, and some other boring shit.

Also, we should have thought to do a quick audio check after we moved the equipment from the rain. My mic sounds like a robot for a bit, Josh’s get’s real loud and reverby, and Chris’s just goes up and down. Bummer.

Well whatever. It’s not like you’re paying for this shit.
